Cryptocurrency Backed Loans

Definition

Cryptocurrency backed loans are financial instruments where borrowers pledge digital assets, such as Bitcoin or Ethereum, as collateral to obtain a loan. These loans are typically overcollateralized, meaning the value of the pledged cryptocurrency often exceeds the loan amount. This mechanism provides liquidity to cryptocurrency holders without requiring them to sell their digital assets. The collateral is held in escrow, often by smart contracts, until the loan is repaid.
