Data Deletion

Definition

Data deletion in the context of blockchain refers to the challenge of permanently removing specific information from an immutable distributed ledger. Due to the append-only nature of most blockchains, truly erasing data after it has been recorded is technically complex, if not impossible, without compromising the chain’s integrity. This poses significant issues for compliance with data privacy regulations like the “right to be forgotten.” Solutions often involve cryptographic techniques to render data unreadable rather than physically removing it.
