Data Permanence

Definition

Data Permanence refers to the characteristic of data being stored in a way that ensures its long-term integrity, immutability, and availability, resisting alteration or deletion. On blockchains, this is achieved through cryptographic linking of data blocks, making historical records extremely difficult to change. It guarantees that once information is recorded, it remains verifiable and accessible indefinitely. This property is fundamental to the trustworthiness of decentralized ledgers.
