Domain Name System

Definition

The Domain Name System, commonly known as DNS, is a hierarchical and decentralized naming system for computers, services, or any resource connected to the Internet or a private network. It translates human-readable domain names, such as example.com, into numerical IP addresses that computers use to identify each other. DNS functions as the internet’s phonebook, making it possible for users to access websites and send emails using memorable names. This system is foundational to how the internet operates.
