Edge Devices

Definition

Edge devices are hardware components positioned at the periphery of a network, close to the source of data generation or consumption. These devices, such as smartphones, IoT sensors, or specialized hardware wallets, perform computation and data processing locally rather than relying solely on centralized cloud servers. Their proximity reduces latency, conserves bandwidth, and enhances privacy by minimizing data transmission to distant data centers. This localized processing capability is increasingly important for decentralized applications.
