External Data Risk

Definition

External Data Risk refers to the potential for inaccuracies or manipulation in information sourced from outside a blockchain system. This risk arises when decentralized applications rely on oracles to feed real-world data, such as asset prices, onto the chain. Compromised or incorrect external data can lead to erroneous smart contract execution and significant financial losses. It highlights a critical vulnerability at the interface between off-chain and on-chain environments.
