Free Mint

Definition

A free mint refers to the creation of a new non-fungible token without requiring payment in cryptocurrency for the minting process itself. While the token itself is free, users typically still incur network transaction fees, known as gas fees, to process the minting operation on the blockchain. This strategy is often used by NFT projects to build initial community interest or distribute tokens to early supporters. It can generate significant buzz and participation, but also attract speculative activity.
