Immutability

Definition

Immutability refers to the characteristic of data or records remaining unalterable once recorded. In blockchain technology, this property ensures that transactions, once validated and added to the distributed ledger, cannot be changed, deleted, or reversed. Each new block cryptographically links to the previous one, creating a tamper-resistant chain where any modification would invalidate subsequent blocks and be detectable by the network. This fundamental attribute provides a high degree of data integrity and transparency, forming the basis of trust in many digital asset systems.
