On-Chain Settlement Mechanism

Definition

An on-chain settlement mechanism is a process where the final transfer of value or ownership for a transaction is recorded and validated directly on a blockchain’s distributed ledger. This ensures that once a transaction is confirmed by the network’s consensus protocol, it is irreversible and globally verifiable. Unlike off-chain settlements that rely on external systems, on-chain methods provide cryptographic proof of completion. This approach offers high transparency and reduces counterparty risk.
