On Chain Spending Patterns

Definition

On-chain spending patterns refer to the observable trends in how cryptocurrency holders move or sell their assets directly on the blockchain. These patterns include the frequency, volume, and age of coins being transferred from wallets, particularly those moving to exchanges or to new addresses. Analysts scrutinize these patterns to infer investor behavior, such as profit-taking, accumulation, or capitulation. For instance, a rise in older coins moving indicates long-term holders selling, while increased movement of recently acquired coins suggests short-term trading activity.
