One-Way Functions

Definition

One-way functions are mathematical operations easy to compute in one direction but extremely difficult to reverse. Given an input, computing the output is straightforward, but deriving the original input from the output is computationally infeasible within practical timeframes. These functions are fundamental building blocks in cryptography, serving as the basis for secure hashing algorithms and digital signatures. Their irreversibility ensures the security of many cryptographic primitives used in blockchain technology.
