Optimistic Rollups

Definition

‘Optimistic Rollups’ are a type of Layer-2 scaling solution for blockchains that process transactions off-chain and then post compressed transaction data to the main chain. They operate under the assumption that transactions are valid by default, with a mechanism for challenging fraudulent states within a specified dispute period. This design allows for high throughput and low transaction fees while inheriting the security of the underlying Layer-1 blockchain. Their development is pivotal for increasing the practical utility of smart contract platforms.
