Parachain Auctions

Definition

Parachain auctions are a competitive mechanism used on the Polkadot network to allocate slots for parachains, which are specialized blockchains. Projects bid for these limited slots by locking up Polkadot’s native token, DOT, for a specified period, often through crowdloan campaigns. Winning a parachain slot grants the project the ability to connect to Polkadot’s central Relay Chain, benefiting from its shared security and interoperability. This process facilitates the expansion of the Polkadot ecosystem.
