Periodic Finality

Definition

Periodic finality refers to a blockchain design where transaction confirmations achieve absolute, irreversible finality at regular, predetermined intervals. Unlike immediate finality, which confirms transactions instantly, periodic finality batches transactions and settles them collectively after a specific time period or block count. This approach can simplify consensus mechanisms and improve network efficiency by reducing the overhead of continuous agreement. It offers a strong guarantee of transaction permanence once a period concludes.
