Proof of Quantum Work (PoQW) is a theoretical consensus mechanism proposed for blockchain networks that would require participants to solve computationally intensive problems specifically designed to be efficient only on quantum computers. This mechanism aims to secure a blockchain against attacks from future quantum computing capabilities, offering a quantum-resistant alternative to traditional Proof of Work. It seeks to leverage the unique properties of quantum computation for network security and decentralization. PoQW remains a speculative concept in its early research stages.
