Protocol Fee Mechanism

Definition

A protocol fee mechanism is the system by which a blockchain or decentralized application collects charges for its operations. These fees, often paid in the network’s native cryptocurrency, compensate validators or miners for processing transactions and securing the network. They can also fund protocol development, provide liquidity, or distribute value to token holders. The design of these mechanisms significantly impacts network economics, user costs, and the long-term sustainability of the protocol.
