Reserve Asset Liquidity

Definition

Reserve asset liquidity refers to the ease and speed with which the underlying assets backing a digital currency, particularly a stablecoin, can be converted into cash without significantly affecting their market price. High liquidity ensures that a stablecoin issuer can readily meet redemption requests from holders, thereby maintaining the stablecoin’s peg to its target value. The composition and tradability of these reserve assets are critical determinants of this liquidity. It is a key factor in a stablecoin’s stability.
