Scalable Rollups

Definition

Scalable rollups are layer two blockchain solutions designed to increase transaction throughput and reduce fees by processing transactions off the main chain. These solutions bundle multiple transactions into a single batch, generate a proof of their validity, and then submit this compressed data to the main layer one blockchain. This approach significantly enhances the scalability of blockchain networks without compromising their underlying security. Various types of rollups exist, including optimistic and zero-knowledge rollups, each with distinct verification mechanisms.
