Shared Mempool

Definition

A Shared Mempool is a collective repository where unconfirmed transactions from multiple blockchain networks or layer-2 solutions are temporarily stored before being processed. Instead of each chain or rollup having its isolated mempool, a shared version allows for greater transparency and coordination across different parts of the ecosystem. This can enable more efficient transaction ordering, reduce front-running opportunities, and facilitate atomic swaps between disparate systems. It promotes a more interconnected transaction environment.
