SMR Fairness

Definition

SMR fairness refers to ensuring equitable access and processing of transactions within a state machine replication system. This concept addresses the challenge of preventing block producers or validators from unfairly prioritizing or reordering transactions to gain an advantage, often referred to as miner extractable value (MEV). Achieving SMR fairness means that all valid transactions are processed in a transparent and unbiased manner, preserving the integrity and predictability of the system’s state transitions. It is a critical consideration for decentralized networks aiming for true impartiality and resistance to manipulation.
