Stablecoin Pre-Funding

Definition

Stablecoin pre-funding refers to the practice where an issuer holds the full value of the underlying assets, typically fiat currency or other stable reserves, before issuing corresponding stablecoins. This mechanism ensures that each stablecoin in circulation is fully backed by an equivalent amount of reserves held in a segregated account. Pre-funding is a fundamental principle for maintaining the stable peg of a stablecoin, providing confidence in its redeemability. It establishes a direct one-to-one relationship between the digital token and its reserve.
