Staked Assets

Definition

Staked assets are cryptocurrencies that participants lock up or “stake” in a proof-of-stake network to help validate transactions and secure the blockchain. In return for their contribution, stakers typically receive rewards, often in the form of additional cryptocurrency. This process is fundamental to the operation of many modern blockchain systems, providing an alternative to proof-of-work’s energy consumption. The act of staking contributes to network security and stability while offering participants a yield on their holdings.
