State-Chartered Banks

Definition

State-chartered banks are financial institutions licensed and regulated by individual state governments within the United States. These banks operate under the laws and supervisory authority of the state in which they are established, rather than federal oversight. They offer a range of banking services, including deposits, loans, and other financial products, to their customers. While state-regulated, they may also be members of the Federal Reserve System and subject to certain federal laws.
