Sustainable Aviation Fuel

Definition

Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) refers to jet fuel produced from renewable and waste-derived biomass and other non-fossil sources, designed to significantly reduce greenhouse gas emissions compared to conventional jet fuel. SAF can be blended with traditional jet fuel and used in existing aircraft engines without modification. Its development and adoption are crucial for the aviation industry’s efforts to decarbonize. SAF production pathways include processes utilizing agricultural waste, used cooking oil, or municipal solid waste.
