Trustless Settlement

Definition

Trustless Settlement refers to the direct and final transfer of assets or completion of a transaction between parties on a blockchain without the need for intermediaries or reliance on third-party assurances. This means that the validity and execution of the transaction are guaranteed by the underlying cryptographic protocols and consensus mechanisms of the network itself. Participants do not need to trust each other or any central entity for the transaction to be securely and irreversibly processed. It is a core promise of decentralized finance.
