Verifiable Timed Signatures

Definition

Verifiable timed signatures are cryptographic constructs that combine the authenticity of a digital signature with a provable temporal constraint. These signatures allow a signer to create a commitment that can only be opened or verified after a specific time has passed or a certain condition is met, with the added assurance that the time constraint itself is cryptographically provable. This means both the signature’s validity and its adherence to the time lock can be independently confirmed by any party. They are useful in scenarios requiring delayed action or scheduled information release with strong guarantees.
