Vertical Integration Strategy

Definition

A vertical integration strategy involves a company acquiring or controlling different stages of its production or distribution chain. This business approach entails a firm extending its operations either upstream, by acquiring suppliers, or downstream, by gaining control over distributors or retail outlets. The objective is to enhance efficiency, reduce costs, improve quality control, and gain greater market power by internalizing processes that were previously handled by external entities. In the digital asset space, this could mean a platform controlling aspects from asset issuance to trading and custody.
